About the region
Hejnice
The town of Hejnice lies on the northern slopes of the Jizera Mountains at an altitude of 375 metres above sea level. The main flow of water here is the River Smědá. The majority of the area is part of the protected landscape of the Jizera Mountains. The existence of Hejnice has always been closely linked to its pilgrimage church, which dates back to 1211 if legend is to be believed. The village of Hejnice was granted town status on 31st July 1917.It fulfils the role of an industrial and agricultural centre and a starting point for tourists, offering public transport connections.
If the number of inhabitants in a place was used as a measuring stick, then Heřmanice, with less than 250 permanent residents, would be one of the smallest in the Frýdlant area. In spite of the fact that it wasn't always so, today Heřmanice is a peaceful hamlet that lies right on the Polish border.
