Sychrov Chateau

The history of this place stretches back to the 15th century, at which time it was known as a stronghold owned by the Bohemian Royal Chamber. The appearance of the residence changed on many occasions over the centuries to come, as did the owners. Indeed Sychrov underwent major transformation during the 19th century. First of all there was grand Empire reconstruction, completed in 1834. The structural development of the chateau mainly continued under the rule of Prince Josef Idesbald Filip Rohan, during which time the present-day neo-Gothic appearance of Sychrov came into being. The romantic neo-Gothic transformation carried out between 1847 and 1862, undertaken in line with the project of Bernard Grueber, a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, ranked Sychrov among the most prominent monuments in the historicising style of the 19th century (others including Hluboká nad Vltavou, Hrádek u Nechanic, Lednice, etc.).

The chateau currently offers its visitors 2 tours. Both circuits take visitors around the most attractive and interesting interiors and exhibits. The beautiful adjacent park is also well worth a visit. A number of interesting events are staged at the chateau throughout the year.
