Our tips
Černá Studnice
Since 1885 there has been a viewpoint here but the forest more and more has limited the view of the country. Therefore the idea of building a lookout tower was considered. The foundation stone was laid in 1904 and in 1905 the lookout tower was opened with a crowd of 6000 visitors. Jablonec architect Robert Hemmrich designed the tower, which is 26m high, to be an impenetrable watchtower of the Jizerské Mountains with a lodge built out later. Some of the blocks used in 160 cm thick walls of the mighty lookout tower weighed 3 tons. Černá Studnice [Black Well] has always been as important for Jablonec as Ještěd has been for Liberec. The lookout tower has become a dominating feature of the Černá Studnice Ridge and there is a splendid view of not only Jablonec, the Jizerské Mountains and Ještěd but also of the more distant Krkonoše and Český Ráj [Czech Paradise].
