Church of the Visitation of Our Lady (Chrám Navštívení Panny Marie) and monastery
The Church of the Visitation of Our Lady is a place of pilgrimage of major importance, a place that is considered to be one of the most beautiful and most romantic places of pilgrimage in the country, mainly thanks to the ridges of the Jizera Mountains that rise majestically over the basilica to create such marvellous scenery. Thanks to its wonderful acoustics and atmosphere, the church is used for organ recitals and concerts of spiritual music. The adjacent Franciscan monastery is also part of the basilica. This underwent reconstruction work in 2000 and is today used as an international centre of spiritual revitalisation. It offers accommodation and rest, visitors being able to relax in one of the many club rooms or refectories and in the small gym. The large monastery gardens, the inner squaring, the southern gardens, the cloisters, and the banks of the River Smědá that flows round the rocky buttress of the church complex are all ideal for recreation and meditation in the fresh air. This complex is also home to a lecture hall with technical equipment in the attic. Exhibitions are held here in the monastery exhibition hall, whilst visitors can take a tour of the basilica with a guide.
