Day 2: “In search of beautiful countryside and glassmaking history"
A - from Jablonec take the bus to Bedřichov (bus no. 1) and from here walk through the forest to Nová Louka, where you can pay a visit to "Šámalova chata", a hotel and restaurant. After some refreshments continue on to the "Památník sklářství" (Glassmaking Memorial) in Kristiánov (a former glassmaking settlement founded by the Riedel family), where you can take a look round the small museum dedicated to the history of this place. From Kristiánov continue on to the Josefův Důl reservoir (a source of drinking water and so not a place for swimming) and on to the village of Josefův Důl itself (refreshments), where only a short distance from the train station (2 km) you can admire the waterfalls on the River Jedlová. It is best to return to Jablonec nad Nisou by train.
B - from Jablonec drive through Liberec on to Frýdlant, where you can visit the chateau ( www.zamekfrydlant.cz, tel.: +420 482 312 130). Then continue on to Hejnice, where you can have a look round the magnificent Basilica of the Visitation of Our Lady (Bazilika Navštívení Panny Marie) and learn about the local legend about the origins of this place of pilgrimage that dates back to the 13th century. ( www.mcdo.cz). From here you might like to head to the picturesque spa village of Libverda ( www.laznelibverda.cz, reconditioning stays, treatment of illnesses of the motor apparatus, vascular, coronary, and mental illnesses), where it is well worth visiting the "Obří sud" (Giant Barrel) restaurant. From here you can return to Jablonec nad Nisou via Liberec.
