Frýdlant opens the doors: April's return to the 1930s and a glimpse into inaccessible chambers
Winter in the Jizera Mountains definitively passes the scepter to spring, and with it comes the moment that history lovers have been waiting for. On April 1, the castle and castle complex Frýdlant opens to the public. And beware, it's not April — this year's season kicks off in style with newly renovated interiors, unique busts and the promise of exclusive tours that will take you to the castle underground.
Back to the Attic and to the First Republic
The biggest draw of this spring is the return to the castle loft. After a difficult reconstruction of the rafters and roofs, take the sightseeing tour Chateau return authentic interiors from the period around 1930. Visitors can thus get a glimpse into the privacy of the Clam-Gallas family — specifically the rooms of the children of the Klotilda owner's sisters and guest rooms. In addition, for the first time, the pantry room and the entrance hall will open on the men's floor.
Knights, busts and rare portraits
If you prefer a rougher history, the circuit Guns, Armor and Knights will delight you with the added exposure of weapons. On the circuit Castle then there was a fascinating reinstallation — restored pieces of furniture and Renaissance busts that had previously formed a separate exhibition returned to the interiors. They are now incorporated directly into the chambers as historical inventories capture them. For those who want to take home a piece of history, a new publication on Renaissance portraits of the Clam-Gallas family is ready at the box office.
The pull of summer: Places you don't normally go
Now circle July and August on your calendar. Frýdlant prepares an absolute treat — circuit Commonly unvisited places of the castle. This route, accessible only on rare occasions, takes you through eleven rooms on the ground floor, including the castle archive, a 19th-century forest administration office, a kitchen, a larder and a mysterious underground.
Castle under the care of restorers
Visitors will see the monument literally in a live stream of its restoration. Work is currently underway on the roofs of the castle and chapel worth 37 million crowns, and in the second half of the year the repair of the western rampart wall will also start. Frýdlant thus changes before our eyes in order to preserve its beauty for generations to come.
Come start the season at one of the most massive castle complexes in our country. Gates open as early as Tuesday, April 1st!
