Wood-Fired Glass Melting Revives Desná's Glassmaking Tradition

On Saturday July 18, 2026 the park at Riedel Villa in Desná will come alive with a unique event Wood-Fired Glass Melting Desná 2026. From 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM visitors will be able to glimpse the traditional method of glass production and experience an atmosphere that harks back to the rich glassmaking history of the Jizera Mountains.

The program will kick off at 10:00 AM with a symbolic blessing and dedication of the new wood-fired furnace. Throughout the day, visitors can observe master glassmakers at work directly at the furnace, learn more about historical glass melting technologies, participate in creative workshops, or relax at refreshment stands. The event offers an opportunity to discover one of the traditional crafts that has shaped the Jizera Mountains for centuries.
