Pay silent remembrance to the victims of the Shoah at the memorial at the Jewish cemetery in Liberec

Liberec

Near Liberec Jewish cemetery is located memorial to the victims of the Shoah, which originated in a historic ceremony hall dating from 1900. After the war, the place fell into disrepair and served as a coffee warehouse; today it is a dignified and powerful space commemorating the tragic fate of nearly 1700 members of the Liberec Jewish community who perished during the Holocaust.

The interior is decorated with a minimalist installation with lines on the ceiling facing the places where these people lost their lives. Each line bears the name of the victim, and at the end of it is hidden a box with a scroll. The monument was created according to the design of a student of the Faculty of Arts and Architecture Štěpán Gudev under the direction of the artist Jan Stolín and, in addition to its memorial significance, it serves as a space for small cultural and educational events. It's a quiet, powerful place worth stopping and thinking about.

Admission to the memorial is 40 CZK, members of Jewish communities have free admission.
