Ruins of Navarov Castle stands majestically above the dramatic valley of the river Kamenice, near Tanvald. Its history dates back to the end of the 13th century, when the castle was built as the administrative centre of a vast estate extending deep into the Jizera Mountains. Until the 17th century, the castle served as an important noble residence before being demolished by a decision of Emperor Ferdinand III.
Today the place is a quiet reminder of ancient history and at the same time a wonderful excursion destination. It will bring you to the castle Red Marked Palacký Trail leading from Podspalov to Tanvald — a route full of natural beauty and views. In 2019, the ruin underwent a complete preservation, thanks to which it was not only preserved for subsequent generations, but also made safely accessible to the public.
The ruins of Navarov Castle are open to the public from the beginning of April to the end of October and attracts not only history lovers, but also all those who want to indulge in a peaceful walk in the backdrop of the wild nature of Jizera.
