Visit the monumental Riedl Tomb — a Neo-Gothic chapel of stone and glass that records the history of the Riedel glass family
.avif)
Head to a quiet place overlooking the valley, where one of the most important figures in glass history rests — Josef Riedel, nicknamed the glass king of the Jizera Mountains. Riedel's tomb in Desna is an impressive example of late 19th century Neo-Gothic architecture, built by his son Wilhelm Riedel.
The chapel, made of Muchov granite and Horic sandstone, was built so that the father of the family could symbolically continue to supervise his glassworks from there. The distinctive turret, stained glass windows and forged details were made directly in the company's workshops. The building was designed by the Liberec architect Adolf Bürger and the place itself feels calm, dignified and almost magical.
Riedl's Tomb is a unique stop for anyone interested in the region's history, architecture or simply just a place that has a soul. We recommend that you combine it with a visit to the nearby Riedel villa — this way you will experience the story of the famous glass family very close up.
