A monumental functionalist building, a unique proof of modern architecture in the north of Bohemia
.avif)
The functionalist structure built in 1931—1933 according to the design of the architect Karl Winter is an exceptional proof of the time. Together with the Ostrava City Hall, it is one of the most representative inter-war town hall buildings in the territory of former Czechoslovakia. The shape of the building was inspired, among other things, by Winter's study trip around Italy and his knowledge of the concept of Gothic and Renaissance Italian town halls. The most representative space was a ceremonial meeting hall equipped with stylish furniture and a gallery for visitors. The commercial premises of the building (cafe, wine bar, restaurant and cinema) were also impressive. Unfortunately, they ceased to exist after 1945. Even so, the town hall has retained a number of original layout units, individual elements and details, including a technical uniqueness - a functional circulating elevator.
Jablonec Town Hall has been declared a national cultural monument.
