Stop by the Rock of Kodeš — a basalt formation with an unusual fan-like arrangement of posts that resembles a stone organ

Heřmanice

Rock of Kodeš in Heřmanice is a natural monument that will excite every lover of geology and unusual views. This well-preserved basalt massif is located on the site of the former Goth quarry, where quarrying has revealed a wonderful demonstration of the columnar separation of basalt — especially the unique fan-shaped arrangement of the pillars, which resembles a stone organ.

In addition, the rock is reminiscent of the country's troubled past — it bears the name of Otakar Kodeš, a teacher from Frýdlant, who was shot by Nazi soldiers in 1938 during the tense period before World War II. Therefore, this place has not only geological but also historical significance.

The surroundings of the rock are home to protected plants such as golden-headed lily, dusky lungwort or European bracken. The location is easily accessible — it is located right on the road from Děhov and invites you to make a short stop or rest during a walking tour of Frýdlant.
