Autumn in Jizerky is a time of color, tranquility and a magical atmosphere. The forests are dressed in golden, red and copper tones, the air smells of pine needles, and the mountain paths beckon for walks and trips. Enjoy the unique season of the year when the Jizera Mountains shine with all colors.

Autumn in the Jizera Mountains has a pace of its own. Mornings are cooler, the forests gradually change colour and the first mists appear over the ridges. There are fewer people on the trails, and familiar places suddenly feel a little different – calmer, and perhaps even more intense.
It is a time to head outdoors, but also to get to know the Jizera Mountains from a different angle. Following the glassmaking tradition, visiting technical monuments and museums, or simply having a coffee after returning from a trip. And when the weather turns bad? Even then, there is no need to stay home all day.
Colourful beech forests, peat bogs, open ridges and views. Autumn is a good time to set out into the Jizera Mountains and see familiar places a little differently again. The Jizera Mountains beech forests turn shades of yellow, orange and red, and for views you can head, for example, to Paličník or Štěpánka.
It can freeze in the morning and rain in the afternoon. That is when the local “jizerské frišno” – the typically raw Jizera mountain weather – comes into play. Warm layers, a waterproof jacket and sturdy boots will come in handy. Before a longer trip, check the forecast and allow for a shorter day.
Choose a route to your liking and set out.
The Jizera Mountains also have something to offer those who are more interested in machines, railways or the stories of local crafts than in hiking trails.
Technology lovers can ride the Zubačka, the unique rack railway between Tanvald, Kořenov and Harrachov. In Kořenov, the Rack Railway Museum and Výtopna Kořenov carry on its story. For more technical sights, head to the Jizerskohorské technické muzeum (Jizera Mountains Technical Museum) in Bílý Potok or the Technical Museum Liberec. And if cars and motorcycles are more your thing, stop by the AUTOMOTO Museum Lučany.
The Jizera Mountains are also inseparably linked with glass. Glassmaking has a long history here, and you will find its traces in many places across the region. To follow the story of one of the most important glassmaking families, visit the Riedel Villa in Desná, where a permanent exhibition presents the regional history and the Riedel family.
An autumn trip need not be an obstacle for families either. Colourful forests, nature trails and shorter routes offer plenty of ways to head out together.
We have put together a selection of trip ideas for families with children – from shorter walks and nature trails to trips to the region's attractions. Choose according to how much time you have, how old your children are and what you feel like doing.
And if the weather really does not cooperate, you can move the programme indoors. Museums, interactive exhibitions, science centres and places where children can try or create something await.

After an autumn trip, something warm and a moment of calm are welcome. A sauna, a massage, yoga, or just coffee and good food.
In the Jizera Mountains you will find many places where you can combine time in nature with relaxation. The UKO Resort in Bedřichov offers wellness, a sauna, a pool, massages and yoga. If you fancy a spa atmosphere, head to the Spa Resort Libverda.
It does not always have to be a full wellness stay. Sometimes it is enough to find a pleasant place for dinner or a café after returning from the mountains and not hurry anywhere.
Autumn invites exactly that. The days are getting shorter, it is getting cooler outside, and there is no need to have a programme from morning till night.
The autumn season in the Jizera Mountains does not end with summer. The region is alive with cultural, sports and social events, and autumn brings plenty of opportunities to head to the mountains and the towns.
