.avif)
Dragonstone on the top of the Dragon Hill in the western part of the Jizera Mountains, it offers not only a beautiful view of Ještěd and Kateřinský rybet, but also a lot of mysteries and legends. The rocky lookout, which leads to 70 steps carved in stone, was opened in 1902 by the Liberec Mountain Association and serves tourists to this day.
According to an old legend, it was once home to a dreaded dragon who demanded a human sacrifice every year on the feast of witches. Girls from the neighborhood threw tickets with their names into the sacrificial bowl on top -- and fate then chose the one to be sacrificed. Once, however, the dragon failed. The girl from the nearby castle was saved by her beloved, who had just returned from a distant journey and defeated the monster with a single arrow.
Dragonstone is thus not only a tourist destination with a view, but also a place with a story. And if the magic of the old days remained? Come and see for yourself.
